********************************   WANTED!! CHILDREN'S SOCKS AND UNDERWEAR! The Chicago Kid's Closet collects and distributes new packages of socks and underwear to the neediest kids in our schools. A good number of students are in great need of these very personal items. Your help is greatly needed to help us fulfill orders for the many children we will serve this year. We collect items year round and are always happy to help you start a collection at your business, school or church. It's a wonderful project and special way to honor a child's dignity. FAQ'S Do you accept only new socks and underwear? We accept any type of new children's underclothing including T-shirt's for our cold winters! What size should I buy? If you have a child, we encourage you to buy their size. It's a nice way to honor them with your donation and it gives us a nice variety of sizes. If you don't have a child, please keep in mind that many of our older kids are in adult sizes. We accommodate student's ages 4 to 17 so sizes can range from 4T to adult extra large. Where will my donation go? CHICAGO KID'S CLOSET serves the children in Chicago's public schools exclusively. The schools contact us through their principals, social workers and teachers. These are people who see the students every day and are aware of these very personal needs. Often times, the children personally request items when they are made aware they are available. Direct Effect processes the orders for each individual child and they are delivered to the schools via CPS mail run trucks. Can I donate clean, gently used items that my children only wore a few times? No, health laws require that all underclothing items donated be new. Is my donation tax deductible? Yes, Direct Effect is a tax-exempt 501 C-3 charitable organization. We can provide you with receipts for your donations. Can I donate New Socks and Underwear to the CLOSET any time of year? We operate our main drive 2 months prior to the start of school however we do accept items year round! Can I make a cash donation?
